INL1 - Assignment, 6. The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students. Individual home assignments will be given that exemplify the theory.

Compact Fusion: Are the Energy Equations About to Change?

Group assignments will be given that require the students to use diagnostics and analyze data to obtain specific information, e. Course credits will be given for completed individual and group assignments. Per Brunsell.

Fusion Engineering and Design - Journal - Elsevier

All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.

In addition, efficient computational tools are needed to manage, analyze, and visualize the enormous datasets resulting from large scale fusion simulations and experiments. Grant applications are sought to develop computer algorithms and tools that are applicable to simulations of magnetically confined plasmas, incorporate an expanded number of plasma features, and integrate multiple physical processes across multiple spatial and temporal scales.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: 1 algorithms incorporating advanced mathematical techniques; 2 algorithms targeting novel computing architectures, including GPU and hybrid computing; ; 3 verification and validation tools, including efficient methods for facilitating comparison of simulation results with experimental data and the development of synthetic diagnostics; 4 data management, visualization, and analysis tools for local and remote multi-dimensional time-dependent datasets resulting from large scale simulations or experiments; 5 techniques for coupling simulation codes, including coupling across different computer platforms and through high speed networks; 6 methodologies for building highly configurable and modular scientific codes and flexible data interfaces; and 7 remote collaboration tools that enhance the ability of geographically distributed groups of scientists to interact in real-time.

The applications submitted in response to this call should have a strong potential for commercialization and should not propose work that is normally funded by program funds.

Skip to main content. Program Phase Year:. Since —with the collaboration of fusion science experts from the ITER Members' physics communities—the ITER Research Plan has been undergoing revision in order to reflect the revised baseline cost and schedule for the project— Baseline Baseline identifies the date of First Plasma as December and lays out a multi-phase approach to full deuterium-tritium operation in , in which periods of machine operation alternate with shutdown periods for further assembly.

This "staged approach" to assembly is considered to represent the best compromise between the desire of all partners to advance quickly, technical constraints including risk , and the financial constraints of the Members.
